Harper Simon

Harper Simon is a singer-songwriter, guitarist, journalist, writer, and music, film, and event producer. His work spans storytelling, advocacy, and the arts, blending artistic vision, journalistic rigor, and a commitment to advocacy to embody the transformative power of creativity and storytelling.

Deeply committed to environmental issues, Harper has produced several benefit concerts, performing alongside legendary artists, including the Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir, Yoko Ono, Karen O, Father John Misty and John C. Reily for organizations such as the Rainforest Action Network and Waterkeeper Alliance, where he also serves as a board member. He also played a pivotal role in arranging for The Strokes to perform at Bernie Sanders’ New Hampshire primary rally in 2020. As a journalist, he has reported on critical global events, including the early days of the war in Ukraine, and his writing has appeared in prominent publications such as the Los Angeles Review of Books, Spin, and Graydon Carter’s AirMail.

Harper is the creator and curator of Meditations on Crime, a sweeping multimedia project blending contemporary art, literature, music, and film. Featuring contributions from visionary talents such as Cindy Sherman, Raymond Pettibon, and Janine di Giovanni, the project culminated in an eponymous short film co-directed with artist Jonah Freeman, which premiered at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles in 2023. In 2025 he released Butterfly, is a musical collaboration with artist and director Vincent Gallo; and his forthcoming Hat and Beard Press book of interviews features a diverse group of cultural luminaries, including tech visionary and author Jaron Lanier, actresses Anjelica Huston and Natasha Lyonne, comedian Fred Armisen, former Head of the CIA Jim Woolsey and members of Pink Floyd and Monty Python.

In partnership with Vice Films, Harper is an executive producer of Pavements, a mock documentary directed by Alex Ross Perry. The film premiered at the 2024 Venice Film Festival and is set for theatrical release in the spring 2025.

He has achieved acclaim as a musician, releasing solo projects and collaborating with a diverse array of artists from Kris Kristofferson to Lady Gaga; and was featured as a musical guest on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and HBO’s “Girls.”
